Reduce Oil Sampling Mistakes |
|
When installing oil sampling ports on equipment, try to incorporate permanent sample port identification tags. These tags help minimize confusion regarding the actual location of the sample port on the equipment and ensure that samples are drawn from the correct location. Sample port identification tags also help ensure the proper label is fixed to the bottle before it is sent to the lab.

Ball Bearing Lubricant Selection is Critical |
|
From the "Plant and Machinery Failure Prevention"
Ball bearings, which operate at high speed, are sensitive to the quality of grease. Ball bearing grease is a sort of semi-solid emulsion of lubricating oil held in a matrix of soap. Due to the churning action inside a ball bearing, this emulsion gets separated into its components viz. soap and oil if the selection of the lubricant is correct or if the manufacturing process is defective. The oil gets churned out of the soap matrix and thrown out. As the soap which gets left behind is not a good lubricant, failure is then inevitable.

How to Fix a High Particle Count
Diagnosing and correcting a high particle count can result in a lot of wasted time and money. Whether you've just begun a lubricant contamination control program or have been monitoring contaminant levels for years, you know how disturbing it is to discover a high particle count. Acting quickly is important, but troubleshooting without a plan often results in unnecessary work and wasteful lubricant and filter use. Instead of throwing time and money at the problem, learn Jim Fitch's specific steps to fixing a high particle count in this informative session at Lubrication Excellence 2009. |

Precision Lubrication for Grease-lubricated Bearings |
|
There are four primary components to precision grease lubrication for bearings: lubricant selection, application method, the volume of lubricant to be delivered and the frequency with which it is applied. This article describes a strategy for defining which approach to each component is right for you.
