Showcase Your Lube Room
Andy Fendryk, PM Technician, Emerson Tool Co.
Since attending a "Best practices for lubrication" class we have
been busy getting our lubes in order. The "lube area" has been
in service for about 6 months now and it is working out quite
well.

All reservoirs have desiccant breathers installed. The side racks
are 7 gallon units and were custom built by us. They are filled
with a portable pump when the level reaches the 2 gallon mark.
The 70 gallon reservoirs are filled when down to 15 gallons.

Our procedure for filling is written in detail for the Central
Stores clerk to follow. Briefly, it states to open the new barrel/pail,
purge the pump, connect to reservoir, fill. With this system the
reservoirs are always filled from unopened new oil containers
through a filter if necessary.

Each lube has a color and shape coded ID tag that matches our
machinery. All oil containers in the plant are being replaced
with Oil Safe jugs. This system is maintained by our Central Stores
clerk who fills and orders lube as needed on a daily basis.

We have also created lube carts that are out in the plant. Each
lube cart is stocked (paper funnels, rags, grease zerks, brushes,
disposable gloves, etc.) for the area it is placed in and also
maintained by the Central Stores clerk. Thank you for the good
information you provided for us.
