Transitioning to a New Lube Supplier
John Isaac, Engineering Manager, Hazlewood Pizza
The first thing would be to ensure what is compatible with what,
and what would need to be flushed before introducing the new lubricant.
If in doubt change out and flush out old lubricant. Then draw
up a matrix of new lubricant and application and issue to all
tradesmen that are likely to need to know.
As for reliability, this should have been discussed with the
new supplier before choosing new lubricant. Some form of agreement
for resulting damage / downtime etc. should have been arranged
with the new supplier. Then and most importantly, manage the situation.
Place stickers or tags on equipment to say what goes where and
what has been used / changed. Carry out quality sampling of lubrication
work to ensure the correct lubricant is being used.
