Transitioning to a New Lube Supplier

Saint Clair Amaker, Predictive Maintenance Specialist, TVA

Get baseline analyses of Supplier A products and compare them with baseline analyses of Supplier B products for viscosity, additive, and AN. Mix 50/50 portions of Supplier A product with Supplier B product that will be used for its replacement.

Observe for any separation in the products after stabilized. Have oil used in large reservoirs tested for compatibility by a reputable Lab. If baseline analyses are very different or if there is separation of the two compared products, an oil flush and change will be necessary. If the viscosity and the additive packages of the oils are similar, top-ups and mixing of the oils is permissible.

The compatibility results of the oils for large reservoirs will dictate an oil flush and change-out or if mixing of the oils is bears no risks.
