Oil Analysis Without Particle Counting?
Bob Berner, Owner, REB Marine
Since down time of large pieces of equipment is extremely costly
I would review the market and select, after checking references
a good grade in line particle counter. If the expense of the periodic
(unknown from challenge description) is costly then there should
be a good argument to purchase in line particle counters.
The cost of which, amortized over the life of the equipment would
likely be less than the estimated future dollar Lab costs over
the same period of time. It is also assumed that all pieces of
equipment have magnetic plugs that are checked on a regular basis
with results recorded in the plant's daily log.
It could also be argued that in line particle counters increase
plant reliability and provide an improved method of particle control
since they are always on versus the periodic Lab sampling and
particle count testing.
