Oil Analysis Without Particle Counting?

Ian Broad, Filtration Specialist, Wyko UK

1. Confirm that the tests are still be carried out and reported to me.

2. Check the precision of the tests currently carried out, for example if the results are being reported on ISO 4406 to 2 codes, say 14/12, rather than 3 codes, say 17/14/12, a build up of fines might be missed.

3. Review the frequency, if these tests are being carried out every week and all is fine consider relaxing regime to say monthly or 6 weekly.

4. Send a separate batch to another lab to confirm the results, I am unhappy that the existing lab is suggesting dropping the tests without finding out what my conditions, environment, risk, downtime costs and health and safety factors are.

5. Check if it is cost effective to carry out the tests by my own staff with hand held monitors or possible even fitting in-line realtime measuring equipment.

6. Get the lab manager on the Noria mailing list!
