Oil Analysis Without Particle Counting?

As a plant equipment manager if the manager of the oil lab I was using "recommended that the particle counting activity be discontinued" on critical compressors, hydraulics and turbine systems I'd be looking for a new oil analysis supplier. I can not believe this would ever happen. This manager obviously doesn't get it where oil analysis in concerned.

A top shelf manager would certainly work with me to establish the most economical sampling interval for the various systems in my plant but nobody I'd respect as a business partner would suggest quitting particle count cold turkey.
