Is Turbine Flush Justified?

Joe Durushia, Engineer Analyst/ Predictive Maintenance, Nuclear Management Company

If it is possible, obtain babbitt and analyze to verify source. If the system filters are in the right spot and are the right size the babbitt should not be an immediate concern. The puddles of water and rust are a concern. The system should be flushed for this reason since the water and rust could accelerate oil degradation. The source and ingression path of the water should be identified and corrected.
