Justifying an Oil Analysis Program

J.M. Weiksner, Sr. P.E., WSRC

First I would provide a copy of the articles written by Drew Troyer (March-April 2001 POA "Is Onsite Oil Analysis Right for Your Organization?") and J. Mike Weiksner (May-June 2001 POA "Applying Onsite Oil Analysis at the Westinghouse Savannah River Company") to read.

After the Mill Manager read these I would share many case histories of experience with improvements through oil analysis. These case histories would include examples of oil type consolidation, oil life extension, machine PM extension, improvements in machinery wear, improvements in component wear i.e. bearings, and how these case histories evolved into other areas of maintenance i.e. journal bearing maintenance, water lubricated bearings studies, and supplier oil evaluations including effects of additives.
