Bewildering Oil Analysis Results

Ian Broad, Filtration Sales, Wyko Industrial Supplies

1. Check the filter housing have elements in them and that they are the correct rating.

2. Check the filter manufacturer/supplier has not been changed and that inferior filters are being used without your knowledge

3. Check that the housings are not on bypass for any reason.

4. Check any top ups are being done thro filter trollys.

5 Check any off-line filtration is still being carried out.

If any of the above are not as they should be and correct and retest.

6. Test method, check that there has been no change in the test method or sampling procedures, dirty bottles, tubes sample position, storage, handling etc.

The samples are in the return line and if laser counts are used it may be that entrained air is coming out as there is no pressure to keep them in 'solution' check this by comparing the laser count with a microscope patch sample.

Finally if there has been any VA analysis determine if there has been deterioration in any of those results and compare with the location of the sample counts to see if there is a correlation.
