Bewildering Oil Analysis Results
Keith V. Anderson, PdM Specialist, Texas Genco
Step 1 - Retest suspect samples to verify results. If
results are verified proceed to step 2.
Step 2 - Check the location of the sample point to insure
it's positioned at a point to obtain a representative
sample. If the sample point is too low, bottom sediment
could be taken with the sample.
Step 3 - Test sample taken from the common oil drain
line where all bearings dump into the main oil reservoir
and perform microscopic analysis.particle count and water
content. Keep in mind the dilution factor when testing
sample from the main oil drain.
Step 4- Insure inspection door gaskets on the main oil
reservoir are in good condition.
Step 5 - Perform microscopic analysis on suspect samples
Step 6- Verify water levels with KF Titrator.
